She is a seemingly ageless actress who can play fairy tale princesses as well as sexy seductresses – but even Amy Adams jokes that her roles may dry up with the passing years.
The Big Eyes actress, 41, told The Times’ Saturday magazine, ‘hopefully, I can continue acting as my face continues to fall south’.
She added that women’s faces start to change faster after the milestone birthday, with just looking in the mirror becoming about ‘meeting a new person every day’.
Amy Adams may be a red carpet regular but she confesses that she doesn’t enjoy it
The Oscar nominee said: ‘Once you turn 40, you begin to meet a new person in the mirror every morning. I say, ‘Oh hello. I know you.’ You can repair yourself, but it takes a little longer.’
The self-deprecating actress also admitted that despite her racy attire onscreen and her glamorous red carpet looks, she does not enjoy the glare of the spotlight.
Amy, who has become the face of Max Mara Accessories, said: ‘I understand that it is part of the job, but it’s not my favourite place. I am not a look-at-me person.’
Instead she says her favourite part of the awards season red carpet gauntlet is getting ready beforehand.
By day Amy, who has a five-year-old daughter Aviana with husband Darren Le Gallo, says she’s more likely to be found wearing workout clothes rather than designer gear.
Amy (centre) played Sydney Prosser in American Hustle, girlfriend of Christian Bale’s Irving Rosenfield (left). Bradley Cooper played excitable cop Richie Dimaso in the 2013 film
‘I surrender to momhood and default to workout clothes.’
Yet she joked to the The Times that photographers always seem to catch her when she’s looking ‘less than her best’.
‘It’s always when I haven’t washed my leggings and I’m wearing something ‘yeuch’.
This may come as a surprise to fans of her films including American Hustle in which she played glamorous con artist Sydney Prosser who used her slashed-to-the-navel clothing as a ruse to distract her marks.
But Amy, who will next be seen in Nocturnal Animals with Jake Gyllenhaal, confesses she didn’t know how raunchy she looked until the film came out.
She said: ‘I was like; Oh Wow! If you started a drinking game about how many times you almost see my nipple, you’d get properly drunk.’
