Taking the plunge: Ben Cohen has signed up for Channel 4 show The Jump, weeks after his pregnant girlfriend appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, Digital Spy reported on Friday
The sportsman’s reality show stint follows his pregnant girlfriend Kristina Rihanoff’s appearance on Celebrity Big Brother last month in which she was the third housemate to be evicted.
The professional dancer famously announced that she and Ben, who have been dating for around a year and a half, were expecting their first child while in the CBB house – just days after entering in early January.
Ben has not made reference to his trip to Austria on social media and MailOnline has contacted his management for clarification of the reports.
The retired rugby star joins this year’s series of The Jump after five contestants were been forced to pull out due to injury – with Linford Christie the latest casualty.
Hoping for better luck: After the professional dancer became the third housemate to be evicted during the latest series of Celebrity Big Brother last month, the retired rugby star will be hoping he has more success on the Channel 4 series
Keeping it on the down-low: The 37-year-old is believed to have already travelled to Austria where the competition is held but he’s not made any reference to his trip on social media
Bumping along nicely: Ben is expecting his first child with girlfriend Kristina. He already has two daughters with estranged wife Abbie
The former athlete suffered a hamstring injury but didn’t recover in time to train for this week’s show, forcing him to quit with the most recently eliminated contestant, James ‘Arg’ Argent, brought back to replace him.
Olympian gymnast Beth Tweddle broke her back when she ploughed into a bollard during training while Made in Chelsea’s Mark-Francis Vandelli snapped his ankle while competing in the Snow Cross challenge.
Retired Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington dislocated her shoulder earlier this month and Tina Hobley was forced to quit after she dislocated her elbow.
Miss Great Britain Zara Holland and ex EastEnders star Joe Swash have already been drafted in this week as replacements, with both celebs already spotted at practice sessions in Austria.
A spokesperson for Channel 4 told MailOnline: ‘Joe is in Austria, but will be undergoing an assessment to ensure he is of a suitable standard before he can be cleared to join the show.’
If he successfully meets the show’s criteria, Joe will join existing participants Dean Cain, Brian McFadden, Heather Mills, Sid Owen, Tamara Beckwith, Sarah Harding, Louisa Lytton, Gemma Merna and Tom Parker.
Ola Jordan weighed into The Jump safety row during an interview on This Morning, on Thursday, after the show was criticised following the spate of celebrity injuries.
The professional dancer, 33, who sat alongside fellow former contestant, Marcus Brigstocke on the sofa, said she still hasn’t recovered from the ‘devastating leg’ injury she suffered last year.
‘It’s an incredibly dangerous sport,’ she told the show’s hosts, Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield. ‘My accident could have happened on holiday. I signed up to a dangerous sport. No one pushed me into it and the injury was my fault.’
Kristina’s decision to announce her pregnancy news during her time on the reality show raised eyebrows.
It was reportedly dismissed as ‘tacky’ by the ex-wife of the dancer’s boyfriend Ben, who Kristina originally met in 2013 when they were partners on Strictly.
A source told The Sun newspaper that the rugby star’s former partner Abby – with whom he has two daughters – described the revelation as nothing more than a publicity stunt.
The insider revealed: ‘Abby thought Kristina’s announcement about her pregnancy was really tacky and stunt for the show.
‘She knows Kristina and Ben make a lot of money through photoshoots and other publicity and doesn’t want her children being any part of that going forward.’
