Having your dish tasted by notoriously demanding baker Paul Hollywood can be a daunting prospect.
The Great British Bake Off judge can leave contestants in tears.
But he was full of praise for former Spice Girl Geri Horner, 43, who softened him up with a savoury Mediterranean tart on the Great Sport Relief Bake Off yesterday.
Star Baker: Geri impressed judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry with her savoury Mediterranean tart
Full of flavour: The tart was topped with Mediterranean ingredients, including peppers and olives
He said of ‘Geri’s Happy Mess’: ‘It was one of the best ones I’ve seen on Bake Off overall – not just in Sport Relief Bake Off, but in the whole Bake Off.’
Even frugal fellow judge Mary Berry went for a second slice.
The tart was topped with Mediterranean ingredients, including peppers and olives, which are favourites of her Spanish mother.
New found confidence: The singer, pictured on the show, said her husband teases her about her cooking
Victorious: The former Spice Girl beat out pop star Louise Redknapp, went up against pop star Louise Redknapp, journalist John Simpson and ex-England footballer Jermaine Jenas to take home the title
Mrs Horner – formerly Geri Halliwell and Ginger Spice in the girl band – also came first in the technical challenge, to make a chocolate and beetroot tray bake, and impressed with her show stopper, a biscuit depiction of Greg Rutherford’s Olympic winning long jump.
The triple triumph prompted the judges to name her Star Baker in the show.
Mrs Horner, who went up against pop star Louise Redknapp, journalist John Simpson and ex-England footballer Jermaine Jenas, said: ‘My husband is always making fun of my cooking so I can’t wait to tell him.’
