‘Their most vulnerable position’: Quora user Kyle Hayashi theorised that cats only sit upright with their belly exposed if they don’t feel threatened
It’s not clear why some cats sit upright, but Quora user Kyle Hayashi theorised that if your cat does this, they’re very comfortable in their environment and don’t feel threatened.
‘Cats don’t sit like humans because that’s not how they sit naturally, in fact you can’t possibly argue that that is the way all cats sit,’ he wrote.
‘In the wild, very few animals would intentionally expose their abdomens like that… this shows that they feel reasonably safe and comfortable to show their belly, knowing that they might not need to run away or fight anytime soon, as that is their most vulnerable position.’
