Josh Duggar, who hasn’t been seen in public since entering a Christian rehab facility in August, turned 28 on Thursday.
To mark the occasion, his devout parents Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar posted a message to him of the Duggar Family Facebook page.
‘The heartache of the past year cannot surpass the joy 28 years ago on this day when we first became parents! We love you Josh and believe your best days can be ahead of you.’
‘We continue to pray for you every day,’ they added.

“We continue to pray for you’: Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar posted a message to the eldest of their 19 kids Josh on his 28th birthday on Thursday, telling their troubled son that his best days could still be head of him
While Josh remains in treatment in Rockford, Illinois, after confessing to adultery and viewing porn, his wife Anna has been raising their four children at the Duggar compound in Arkansas.
Last May, the public learned that Josh molested five minors as a teenager, including four of his sisters, and the ensuing scandal forced TLC to cancel the family’s long-running reality show 19 Kids & Counting.
The summer then ended with the news that Josh had an account on the adult cheating website Ashley Madison and had been having sexual encounters with women outside his marriage.
In treatment: Josh spent his birthday in a faith-based rehab facility where he’s been since August after admitting that he had cheated on his wife Anna, the mother of his four children, with multiple women
‘We love you Josh’: Devout Christians Jim Bob, 50, and Michelle, 49, told their son: ‘The heartache of the past year cannot surpass the joy 28 years ago on this day when we first became parents!’
In a letter he wrote in August, before entering the Reformers Unanimous center, the eldest Duggar offspring asked for forgiveness.
‘I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have secretly over the last several years been viewing pornography on the internet and this became a secret addiction and I became unfaithful to my wife,’ Josh wrote.
‘I am so ashamed of the double life that I have been living and am grieved for the hurt, pain and disgrace my sin has caused my wife and family, and most of all Jesus and all those who profess faith in Him.’
Troubled: It emerged in 2015 that Josh had molested underage girls including four of his sisters when he was a teen and that he had also signed up to the Ashley Madison cheating website and viewed pornography
He has been visited by his wife Anna on multiple occasions, who has said she is standing by her husband.
The couple wed in 2008, and are parents to five-month-old Meredith Grace, two-year-old Marcus, four-year-old Michael and six-year-old daughter Mackynzie.
Late last month TLC announced that the Duggars – minus Josh – will be returning to TV screens in a new show called Jill and Jessa: Counting On.
It will premiere on March 15 and focus primarily on sisters Jill and Jessa as they navigate marriage and motherhood.
Other Duggar children are also expected to be featured in the series along with Josh’s wife Anna.
Still here: In the wake of Josh’s scandal and the cancellation of their reality show 19 Kids & Counting, Duggar sisters Jill and Jessa have tried to keep the media spotlight shining on them, their husbands and their children
Return to TV: TLC has now ordered a full season of Jill and Jessa: Counting On that will follow the older Duggar siblings. It premieres on March 15
