A Cincinnati father accidentally killed his 14-year-old son on Tuesday after mistaking him for a home intruder and shooting him in the neck, police said.
The victim was identified as Georta Mack, police said in a statement.
The father believed his son had already gone to school that morning, but Georta returned home shortly after.
Authorities said the man was still in bed when he heard a noise in the basement and retrieved his handgun before going to check on it.

Cincinnati Police Sgt. Joe Briede said the teen was skipping school.
Authorities said Georta planned to hide in the basement until his father went to work, according toFox 19.
The father became startled as the teen walked up the basement steps and fired the weapon, shooting his son in the neck.
He then called 911 around 6.30am, according to WCPO.
Mack was taken to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in ‘extreme critical condition’ and died around 8.15am.
The man is currently with Cincinnati police for questioning.
