Next step? Samantha Role, 30, surprised her husband Neil Bowlus, 31, with a ‘second honeymoon’ to Savannah on Tuesday night’s episode of the FYI reality series Married at First Sight
Look of love? Sam couldn’t help but smile when she admitted that she now has a ‘crush’ on her husband of five weeks
The two were enjoying a video chat conversation while he was away when Neil asked his bride if she misses him. Although Sam did, she decided to flip the question and ask him if he missed her. However, she wasn’t thrilled when he admitted that he didn’t.
‘Oh, and I was going to say yes,’ Sam replied with obvious displeasure.
Neil insisted that she should take it personally, explaining: ‘It takes me a long time to miss people.’
‘Wow. That kind of hurt my feelings, but that’s OK,’ Sam said in a tone that showed it clearly wasn’t OK with her.
Neil maintained that she shouldn’t feel hurt because it is ‘just a personal thing’, but Sam noted that his response once again goes back to them ‘not being a unit’.
Fishing for compliments: When Neil went away to attend a family wedding in Las Vegas, Sam asked him if he missed her during a one of their video chats
Feeling hurt: However, Sam was shocked when Neil admitted that he didn’t miss her, but he maintained that it takes him a long time to start to miss people
Meanwhile, her husband confessed to the cameras that he was confused by her reaction because in the past she has made it clear that he has made her uncomfortable numerous times, but her reaction to him not missing her proves that she definitely cares about him in a way that is more than just friendly.
Sam explained to the cameras that the reason she asked Neil if he missed her was because she wanted to see how he would respond. She assumed that the reason he was asking her that question was because he really missed her, and after he said he didn’t Sam said he doesn’t ‘deserve’ to talk to her.
‘I feel like Neil could have been that piece that lasted with me, and we could take this relationship to another level, but at this point though, after five weeks, after the experts have given advice about what to do, how to speak to me, things to work on together – as much as they’ve given me the same advice, that has shown it has meant jack s**t to him. Jack s**t!’ she told the cameras angrily.
However, they both seemed to have had a change of heart after their conversation, and when Neil returned he brought flowers for Sam, and she greeted him with open arms.
Surprised: Neil said he was confused by Sam’s reaction because she has told him multiple times that he has made her uncomfortable in the past, and he believed it was a sign that she now sees him as more than a friend
Budding romance: Neil brought Sam flowers home, and she rewarded him with a hug when she saw him
‘I wanted to do flowers to show Sam that I care,’ he explained – but he didn’t stop there. He also bought Sam a magnet, a key chain, a playful ring with an owl on it, and a ring holder, which she had apparently been saying she needed.
‘When I told Sam I didn’t miss her, the intnetion behind that wasn’t at all to hurt her feelings or make her feel sad or anything like that,’ he said.
‘Hindsight, I can see now how that was a little insensitive, and I felt really bad about hurting her feelings.’
Meanwhile, Sam started crying tears of joy over all of the gifts Neil showered her with when he got home.
‘It made me cry tears of joy because that makes me realize how much I miss him and how much he really felt bad that that happened,’ she explained. ‘That just proved to me more why we were matched and why I still want to stay married to him.’
Touching gesture: Neil also gifted Sam a bunch of trinkets from his trip including a ring with an owl on it
Sam also surprised Neil by having their wedding photos blown up while he was away
Growing intimacy: Sam and Neil shared a warm embrace while fishing in Savannah, and they both hinted that they are ready to take their relationship to the next level
‘I am starting to really see him as my husband,’ she added. ‘Immediately when I walked in, the first thing I wanted to do was go and get my marriage certificate and change my last name, and I’ve never felt that way before.’
And Neil wasn’t the only one who had a surprise. While he was gone, Sam had their wedding photos blown up and displayed around their house, and she also planned a trip for them to go to Savannah – just a week before they have to decide if they are going to stay married or get divorced.
‘I am so happy because I have wanted it to work so bad and I finally feel like it is going to work, and we will stay married,’ Sam said of her feeling for her husband.
The couple has yet to be intimate aside from sharing warm embraces, and Neil noted that this trip may be an opportunity for them to ‘finally connect as a husband and wife’ and see if they have the physical chemistry to sustain a marriage.
At the start of their trip, Neil took Sam fishing because he knows that she enjoys outdoor activities, and she was touched by the thoughtful gesture.
Moving forward: Ashley Doherty, 30, finally accepted her 30-year-old husband David Norton’s apology after she allegedly caught him trying to make a date with another woman
Expert opinion: The show’s resident sociologist, Dr. Pepper Schwartz, advised the couple to spend some quality time together to see if they can move on a week before the end of the social experiment
‘I came to Savannah almost in the hopes that we can have almost a second honeymoon where we can actually enjoy each other’s company and not a stranger’s,’ she said. ‘Five weeks ago I didn’t think I would ever get to where I am now, and I think that we can finally become a little bit more intimate and get into the vibe of being a married couple.’
However, during their fishing trip, they both admitted that they aren’t ready to go into decision day and make the one of the biggest decisions of their lives.
In a preview clip for next weeks episode, Sam can be seen admitting that she is afraid her actions will push her husband away for good.
‘What frightens me most is that he will ask for a divorce and I’ll deserve it,’ she said tearfully.
Meanwhile, Tres Russell, 27,and Vanessa Nelson, 26, were also struggling with the next steps of their relationship.
Second chance? While Ashley said it felt good to move on from their fight, David said he was willing to do anything to make his wife realize how much he cares about her
Acts of kindness: David surprised Ashley by registering them for a race to run together, while Ashley gave him a comical apron that he could wear while cooking on the grill
Vanessa was visibly hurt that her husband of five weeks insisted that they keep their separate apartments after the experiment was over.
‘That makes me feel like you really don’t want to live together,’ she explained.
Tres insisted that he ‘definitely’ thinks they should live together, but he was just being practical.
‘I do have trust issues, but it is really uncomfortable to have not only a big decision if we are going to stay married or not coming up but we are talking about another big decision,’ Vanessa told the cameras of deciding whether or not they will stay married.
‘My thing is I don’t think that we should both cancel our leases immediately and that’s my big thing. That is just the logical side of me,’ Tres told her.
Team work: The couple also went zip lining together, and they had to work together to get across a shaky bridge
Romantic gesture? Ashley even gave David a kiss on the cheek, which is the most intimate they have been since they got married
Tres went on to say that he just doesn’t think it is smart to go buy a place together, explaining that if he hated the location for whatever reason, they wouldn’t have another place to fall back on.
Vanessa admitted that she was afraid if they don’t have a plan in place for living together that they would eventually grow apart.
‘You are asking me to give up my apartment before we make a decision to stay married,’ he said, noting that if she doesn’t learn how to trust him, they are never going to work as a couple.
However, Tres seems to truly care about his wife, and with a week to go before he decision day, he decided to whisk her off to a romantic getaway, so they could enjoy some time together.
When he got home from work, he left her a note and some bubbly, explaining that she would have 15 minutes to pack before a car service picked her up and took her to a surprise location.
Big decision: Vanessa Nelson, 26, and Tres Russell, 27, had a disagreement about whether or not they should get rid of their separate apartments moving forward
Disagreement: While Vanessa feared they would grow apart of they lived separately, Tres insisted that he wanted to live together, he just didn’t think it would be logical to break the leases on their apartments
‘I think it is great to see that he is trying to keep the momentum going,’ Vanessa said of his touching gesture, adding: ‘That’s why I feel like I am falling in love with him.’
After Vanessa arrived to the bed and breakfast they would be staying, she followed a trail of rose petals to find her husband standing outside with a bouquet of roses.
The two enjoyed a romantic dinner and plenty of kisses, and the next day they went horseback riding around the winery.
However, their romantic getaway came to a halt after Tres had an allergic reaction to something and broke out in hives all over his face. Tres was touched by how Vanessa insisted on taking care of him, and she ultimately decided that they should go home because of his condition.
‘Even though Tres got sick and we had some crazy horses, and we didn’t get to go wine tasting, I would say it was still a wonderful trip because we did get to spend a lot of time together and Tres put a lot of effort and thought into it and that is all that really matters,’ she told the cameras.
Still in love: Tres surprised Vanessa with a note telling her that a car service was going to whisk her away to a weekend getaway for the two of them
Attention to detail: Tres gave Vanessa roses when she met him at the bed and breakfast they were staying at
Meanwhile, David Norton, 29, returned home from Buffalo after giving his wife Ashley Doherty, 30, a few days to cool off following their first major argument.
Last week, Ashley accused David of trying to make a date with another woman, who was allegedly a mutual friend of their’s, while he maintained that he was just trying to get to know his wife better.
And after spending a few days away from his wife, who refuses to even kiss him after five weeks of marriage, David was dedicated to making amends.
‘I am excited to show Ashley that I am sorry,’ he told the cameras.
When he arrived home, Ashley awkwardly greeted him in the kitchen, and he immediately told her that she was right about him letting his ego get in the way from him truly apologizing for his actions.
Ashley, who told him she appreciated his ‘true apology’, explained to the cameras that she was ready to move forward and see where their relationship went.
So sweet: Tres even brought his wife breakfast in bed on their first morning away from home
Romantic vacation: In the afternoon, the couple went horseback riding around the winery
‘Time is running out, and I need to show her who I am and how much I really do care for her and this marriage,’ David explained.
Dr. Pepper Schwartz, the show’s resident sociologist, came to visit the couple, and during their one-on-one session, Ashley told the expert how she caught her husband allegedly trying to make a date with another woman.
And while Dr. Schwartz appeared a bit shocked by the accusation, she noted that Ashley was partially to blame for his actions.
‘You have been slow to warm up to him. You guys are not sexual together, and maybe he was angry and hurt because you don’t show that you find him attractive or maybe he was telling you the truth,’ she told Ashley.
Meanwhile, during her separate session with David, he explained his real reason for trying to chat with another woman.
Unexpected: Unfortunately, Tres had a horrible allergic reaction to something outside and his face broke out in hives, and he could barely keep his eye open
Concerned wife: Vanessa ultimately decided that they should go home because of Tres’ allergic reaction, but she noted that she was still touched by his romantic gesture
‘My choice of words was poor, but the reason I called and asked her out was to ask about Ashley,’ he insisted.
Dr. Schwartz advised them with a week left in the experiment that they should surprise each other with gifts and spend some quality time together.
While David registered them to run a race together, Ashley gifted him a funny apron that he could wear when he is cooking on their grill.
‘I think his gift is thoughtful because he knows it is something I like to do,’ Ashley told the cameras.
The couple also headed to go zip lining together because they seem to be at their best when they are enjoying physical activities together.
Before jumping off a platform while attached to a rope, David asked Ashley for a kiss and she complied, giving him a quick peck on the cheek, which was the most intimate they have been in five weeks.
‘Ashley doesn’t kiss me for six weeks but she kisses me right before I jump off a wall,’ he told the cameras.
And Ashley added that jumping off the platform was a ‘cool experience to share together’.
Next week, all three three couple will reveal if they want to stay married after six weeks together.
