A dog owner is in serious condition in hospital Sunday night after being savaged on the arm by his family’s St Bernard.
The man, who has not been named, was attacked in Oklahoma City by the five-year-old adopted animal during an argument with his wife over a phone.
Police, who were called to the scene by the family, tasered dog Atlas at least twice before it turned on them, forcing officers to shoot it five times.
Hudson said the attack began at around 1.40pm in the laundry room of her family home where she was washing clothes with her husband, Kfor reports.
At one point Hudson said she asked her husband to hand his phone over so she could look at it, but he refused to do so, making her suspicious.
The pair then got into an argument, when Hudson said she shouted at her partner.
Atlas, who had been in another room, initially didn’t respond but after Hudson shouted a second time the dog came running in, latching on to his right arm.
According to OK Fox, the man managed to drag the animal out on to the front porch as it gnawed on his arm, in the hopes that Atlas would let go.
However the dog only bit deeper, causing blood to come pouring out of the wound, at which point the man yelled at Hudson to call 911.
Shelley Hudson, from Oklahoma City (pictured), said she got into an argument with her husband on Sunday over his phone, and when she began yelling at him the dog attacked
The police arrived and attempted to subdue the large animal with stun guns, but when it turned on them they were forced to shoot it.
Atlas was treated at the scene but later died. The husband remains in a serious condition in hospital.
According to Hudson, the dog, which the family adopted three years ago, had attacked her husband once before.
However, the family said they decided not to report the incident and to give Atlas a second chance.
The man managed to drag the animal outside, still attached to his arm, before police arrived and tasered it – but when the dog turned on them they opened fire, killing it
