As the Middletons take an increasingly prominent role in public life, their friends are making sure they have homes fit for entertaining our new ‘royal’ family.
I hear that Pippa Middleton’s confidant James Matthews is planning to expand his £17 million home in Chelsea, to the horror of the banker’s neighbours.
Matthews, 40, who has just returned from a holiday with the Duchess of Cambridge’s family on the Caribbean island of Mustique, has submitted plans for a first-floor extension to the five-storey, stucco-fronted property, which he bought in 2014.
Old Etonian James, whose parents own the luxury Eden Rock resort in St Barts, has provoked complaints from neighbours
However, James, the older brother of steroid-using Made In Chelsea star Spencer Matthews, faces a fight to get his proposals approved.
He wants to build a bathroom above the kitchen, with the blueprints showing a ‘vanity basin’ complete with his and hers sinks that would be just perfect for Pippa, 32, when she comes to stay.
The pair used to go out together, but broke up in 2011.
They were, though, pictured playing tennis together in Mustique last week, prompting speculation they might have rekindled their romance.
Pippa, who attended a church service with the Queen at Sandringham on Sunday, split up with investment manager Nico Jackson in October after a three-year relationship. The extra space at Matthews’ home will make way for two separate dressing rooms — again, his and hers — both off the master bedroom, where there will also be a seating area.
Old Etonian James, whose parents own the luxury Eden Rock resort in St Barts, has provoked complaints from four neighbours, including a landlord who fears her tenants will leave if the building work goes ahead.
The landlord told Kensington and Chelsea Council that the extension would block the view of ‘greenery’ from her property, while another neighbour wrote that they ‘strongly’ opposed the extension because it would stop light entering.
A third objector said ‘extensive work’ undertaken by the previous owner over ‘several years’ had been ‘highly disruptive’ and caused a wall to collapse into their garden.
Matthews could not be reached for comment. Councillors will rule on the plans today. Perhaps Pippa should pop in to put in a good word?
Her starring role in the hit TV show Poldark has propelled her into the limelight, but actress Eleanor Tomlinson reveals there is one slightly unexpected question that her fans always ask.
‘People often ask me if I’m related to [pop star] Louis Tomlinson,’ she tells me. ‘It’s not a bad thing, because lots of people like One Direction, but I wouldn’t exactly say I’m a fan.’
The 23-year-old, who plays Demelza alongside Aidan Turner in the hit BBC series, notes: ‘I’m a bit too old for that kind of music.’
Bunking off? Brooklyn joins fashion front row
Natty: Brooklyn (left) and Gabriel
Basking in the glow of their parents’ hard-earned success, 16-year-old Brooklyn Beckham, son of David and Victoria, and Gabriel Day-Lewis, the 20-year-old son of triple Oscar-winner Daniel and French actress Isabelle Adjani, were front row at the Burberry catwalk show in Kensington yesterday.
Aspiring musician Gabriel features in Burberry’s current advertising campaign, while Brooklyn’s younger brother, Romeo, 13, has modelled for them in the past.
No doubt Romeo’s school commitments prevented him from attending the star-studded show.
Brooklyn, on the other hand, was able to combine the two: I hear he was allowed to miss school for the event because it was a special project for a photography assignment.
Some boys have all the luck.
Is actress Emilia Fox dropping a heavy hint she’d like to start a family with her on-off beau, chef Marco Pierre White?
The Silent Witness star, 41, who has a five- year-old daughter, Rose, with former partner, film-maker and peace activist Jeremy Gilley, says she yearns to be a stay-at-home mum.
‘I just think I would be in heaven staying at home with loads of children every day — a whole brood to potter round with,’ she sighs.
