Forget rainbow hair, and give up on glitter roots, because there’s a quirky new hair trend taking social media by storm: Unicorn hair.
The bizarre style sees women braiding the front section of their hair upwards in order to form a horn just like that seen on a unicorn.
Many then accentuate the style with the addition of brightly-colored dye, giving a fun and whimsical rainbow effect which, although perhaps not the most practical, is certainly a style that is sure to make you stand out from the crowd.
Magical? The latest hair trend to take social media by storm sees people turning their hair into unicorn horns
Get it up! The style involves people braiding their hair into a horn-like shape, as well as coloring it in a variety of different shades
And if you’re eager to try the trend but are unsure about how to pull it off, never fear. As with all quirky beauty trends there are plenty of tutorials on YouTube which offer step-by-step instructions on how to replicate the over-the-top look.
YouTuber Venus Angelic has created one such video, in which she actually gives her viewers guidance on how to create an entire unicorn look, from the fashion to the make-up to the hair.
According to Venus, the way to start is by taking the front section of your hair and making a ponytail like you normally would, instead of pulling the pony the whole way through, you leave it at the half-way point, forming a loop of hair.
How to: YouTuber Venus Angelic breaks down how to get the new Unicorn horn hair fad
Easy to do: After forming a loop in your ponytail, just wrap the rest of the hair around the loop and pin
Final Product: Venus shows off the newly formed horn on her head.
Then wrap the rest of the hair in the pony around the loop into a cone shape. Pin in place, and pull at the top a bit to make the cone larger. Then just spray to keep the horn standing tall.
Add extensions to your hair prior to starting if you really want to take this fairy-tale hairstyle to new heights.
The quirky trend has been increasing in popularity on instagram. Instagram user @Kirstyn_yanniello got loads of comments like ‘gotta try this’ and ‘my hair-do for this weekend’ when she grammed her magical do.
When hairstylist @josh_congreve posted his take on the trend, he received comments like ‘Unicorn hair rules!!’
Artistic: The style can also be worn without the use of multi-colored dye, as modeled by this hairstylist
